Summer Term 2023 (16.05. -14.07.2023)
Module Description:
Our module deals with the mechanisms regulating different pathways of regulated cell death (RCD) including apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis and ferroptosis. You will get insights on important concepts concerning the functional implications of RCD in inflammation and immunity, as well as in the pathogenesis of inflammatory and degenerative diseases. In the lab you will perform molecular, biochemical and imaging methods used to detect and measure cell death as well as inflammatory responses. This will include eukaryotic cell culture and transfection, protein and DNA purification and analysis, gel electrophoresis (agarose and PAGE), western blot, immunofluorescence staining, immunohistochemistry (confocal and fluorescent microscopy), FACS and assays detecting different forms of cell death.
This course is mainly conducted by the lab of Prof. Manolis Pasparakis, together with the labs of Prof. Dr. Hamid Kashkar and Prof Dr. Silvia von Karstedt.

Please note:
The course starts on Monday, 22nd of May at 9:15 am (Venue: Institute of Genetics at the University of Cologne Zülpicher Str. 47a, ground floor, room 0.46.).
An introductory meeting via ZOOM is planned for the 16th of May at 12:00. Here you will get the obligatory safety instruction. Additionally, you will get an overview on the dates and the structure of the course and the requirements specified therein. The ZOOM link for the safety instruction will be send to the participants via email.
